First they came for...

First they came for the smokers, and I did not speak out—because I did not smoke;
Then they came for the obese, and I did not speak out—because I was not over weight;
Then they came for the diabetics, and I did not speak out—because I did not have diabetes.
Then they came for the elderly, and I did not speak out—because I was not old;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The Senate Finance Committee has passed an amendment allowing employers to increase the cost of coverage to certain employees (as much as 50%) based on whether they meet certain "wellness" criteria, such as quitting smoking or losing weight.

Given that the links between things like obesity, cholesterol levels, diet, exercise, etc.and healthcare costs are nebulous at best and completely fictitious at worst, this comes down to one thing—government-sanctioned discrimination based on nothing more than aesthetics and pop-culture stereotypes. Which begs the question—when will they come for me?
